March 2 2008

This afternoon we were joined for a day of R and R on the water by Jerry, Carol, Mike and Memo. We never expected to have an afternoon full of chaos and complete pandemonium. We started out trolling the reef in search of some kingfish or bonitos. Well the reef fish just were not biting so we decided to switch up and do some live bait kite fishing. And that’s when it all started. It did not take long and we were Hooked Up with a big sailfish. Finally got the first sailfish to the boat and before we knew it we were connected again. We also caught that one started getting the baits back out and BAM again connected.

What a day we ended up catching 3 out of 5 sailfish and had a ball doing it.

Thanks again guys for a great fun filled afternoon on the water.

Well spring is here and so are the sails so give us a call and let us get you Hooked Up

Today Tricia, Dennis Mike and Debbie all from New Hampshire spent the day fishing aboard the Hooked Up. We had little or no current so we knew fishing was going to be a little slow and that we would have to work pretty hard to produce some fish.

We started out the day with buying some bait fish from the bait boat. Than we went to a ship that was anchored up and started trolling some little jigs and see if we could catch some little bonitos so that we would have a variety of different kinds of live baits so we could do a few different styles of fishing to produce some fish.

Well the bait fish did not come easy but we did manage to catch a few. So we headed right for a ship wreck and drop one of these fresh live baits down to the bottom and see what we could pull out of the wreck. Well it paid off we caught a monster amberjack. Ok so now we had the skunk out of the box and thought we would work our way down to the south and fish the waters off the coast of North Miami. We trolled our way down and got lucky and caught a few dolphin fish. Well now we were on a roll. You see none of the other fishing boats were catching much and we were pretty happy with our catch so far.

Well when we finally worked our way down to where we wanted to put the live baits out we could not believe our eyes. We found clean blue water and some north current there also. We knew it looked like good sailfish waters and we put out our kites and suspended our live baits from them. Well it didn’t take long and there he was a big sailfish and he was after one of our baits. Seconds later we were Hooked Up and it was GAME ON . It took about 20 min but we did finally manage to get this monster sail to the boat. Way to go guys. And to my crew Captain Greg and my son Luis way to keep working at it and making it happen.

Well fishing just keeps getting better every day and the further we get into spring the better it gets so give us a call and let’s get you out there fishing in sunny South Florida.

Today was kind of a special day for us we got to take out John McGuiness from New York who works for the Baltimore Orioles and Buck Martinez who used to play for the team. We were supposed to have some more people on the boat but the weather was a little rough and some of them decided to stay in a sleep.

Well they should have come out fishing it was a great day of fishing!! We went right to it and put out the live baits and caught a big sailfish. We got the baits right back out there and caught one more. Well now they had both caught sailfish and we wanted to catch them something else. So we put out our shark baits and sure enough just a few min into it there he was a monster hammer head shark.

Well guys thanks again for a fun morning of fishing. We are looking forward to fishing you guys again next Sat but we just don’t know what we’ll do to top this!

March 10

Today we had a father son team Rick and Devin onboard for a day of Deep Sea Fishing aboard the Hooked Up.

Well we decided to go right after the big fish and there has been some sailfish around. So we put out our kites and suspended some live bait from the kites.

Well it didn’t take long and we were hooked Up with a nice dolphin fish We got the baits right back out there and sure enough there was another dolphin. So now we had caught some fish for the table but we wanted to land something big. We waited for some time but it did finally pay off. There he was a big sailfish and he was after one of our live baits. It didn’t take this sailfish long till he had the bait in his mouth and GAME ON we were Hooked Up.

It took about 15 min but we did finally get the fish to the boat. We got a few good pictures and managed to release the fish unharmed. Great going guys thanks for a fun morning of fishing.

Today we had some regular customers Clark and Whitney from New York and they brought along Larry and John from Illinois with them. Larry and John had not caught a sailfish yet so that was what we had in mind. We went right to it and put out the kites with some live baits suspended from them and waited for the sails to show up.

Well the sails did not show right up like we had hoped but we did catch a few dolphin fish and the made Clark and Whitney pretty happy they love eating dolphin fish. After catching some dolphin we got the baits right back put there and it didn’t take long and there he was a big sailfish and the fight was on. It took about 20 min but we did finally manage to catch and release the fish unharmed. Way to go guys and looking forward to seeing you again soon.

March 12

I’m going to start out by saying this was a great day of fishing. We started out the morning fishing with Gostin, Europe, Gabriel and Alex all from Romania. We had gotten an early start and we were out to the fishing grounds by 7:17 am so we were the first ones out there and I did not have the luxury of listing to the radio and hearing where the fish were being seen So I decided to start out fishing next to this ship that has been anchored up in about 150 feet of water for about the last month. It has been there so long that a lot of bait fish were hanging around it and I figured that there had to be a bigger around feeding on them.

So we put our kites out right next to the ship and started drifting down the side of it. We did not even get half way down when BAM there he was and we were Hooked Up. As we were fighting the sail fish another one of our baits got eaten buy a big kingfish. So now we had a sail going one way a kingfish going the other way and a big ship right next to us. WHAT TO DO. Well I figured the sail was a better catch than the king so I contracted on the sailfish and just hopped the king would stay contacted. After about 15 min we did manage to catch and release the sailfish so now I could concentrate the kingfish. Well we did manage to catch both of them but much to my surprise they seemed more excited about the king which they could eat then they were about the sailfish.

Well needless to say I went right back to the same spot and set up again. It took about 2 min and there was another sailfish trying to eat one of our baits. We caught that sailfish in about 15 min and we were feeling pretty good about our catch when our customers asked if we could catch more of those kingfish to eat. So having said that we went trolling down the reef and caught some kingfish.

Well all in all a good time was had by all and we could not wait to get back out here with our afternoon trip.

Well at 12:30 pm they showed up and we could not wait to let them know that fishing was good and that we were reeling looking forward to catching them some sailfish.

Well the boys from Boston and Bentley College consisted of Chris, Mike, Talia, Todd, Jayson and Paul and these guys were pumped up about the fishing and the beer drinking. And they had plenty of beer.

So we went right to it in the same spot that we had fished in the morning. It started out kind of slow with a couple of kingfish chop offs. But after a little while there he was a big sailfish and we were Hooked Up again. Paul wasted no time getting in the fighting chair we were Hooked Up fighting the fish for about 10 min when the reel just quit that’s right it just decided to stop working and this could not have happen at a worse time. So we started backing down on the fish real hard at our mate JJ cut the line and tied a not into another line connected to another rod. I could not believe it worked and we were back to fighting the fish. It took us about another 20 min but we did finally manage to catch and release the fish.

Great time guys looking reward to fishing you guys again soon.

March 15

Today Steve and John from Atlanta joined us for an afternoon of deep sea fishing. We ran down to the south to get away from all the other fishing boats. We figured there was a lot less pleasure on the fish down where no one else was fishing.

Things stated out pretty good we had just got all the baits in the water when there was a big splash by one of our live baits and one of the rods bent over a line started peeling off the reel. Well Steve wasted no time jumping in the chair and the fight was on. It took about 5 min when he reeled the fish to the boat. It turned out to be a monster barracuda. We were all pretty happy that it only took about 5 min to get the bite but Steve and John really wanted fish they could eat.

So we hung in there for about another hour or so. While we were waiting Captain Greg cut up some fresh fish we had caught earlier in the day and they had a ball eating raw fish.

Well we could see they really wanted some good eating fish so we brought in our live baits and went off shore looking for some dolphin fish. The ocean looked real good off shore and we found a few dolphin but we could not get them to eat anything so we moved on in search of some hungry ones.

Well just as we were about to throw in the towel one of our rigger baits got knocked down and their he was. At last a nice dolphin fish. All in all we all had great time fishing. Thanks again Steve looking forward to fishing with you guys again soon

March 16

Today Jeff and Robert Byrd and the rest of their family spent the morning fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

We started out trolling the reef but not much was biting on the troll so we put out the live baits. Well we made the right choice because it didn’t take long and here came a sailfish and this fish was hungry sure enough in seconds we were Hooked Up. It took about 20 min to get the fish to the boat for a few pictures but we did and the fish swam away a little smarter than he was about 25 min ago. So we got the baits right back out there and here came another one and once again this fish was going to eat and he did. Seconds later we were Hooked Up again. This fish was a little bigger than the first one but our angler did a great job and we got the sec sailfish to the boat for a few good pictures were able to release the unharmed.

Well thing were going pretty good so far but we wanted to get everyone some fish they could eat so we bumped the boat out to a little deeper water and it did not take long and we had a few dolphin fish chasseing our baits around. We ended up catching 2 out of the 3 that were there.

Way to go guy’s great morning of fishing thanks again for a great time.

Can’t believe they pay me to have all this fun. (WHAT A COUNTRY)

Well that’s it for today can’t wait to get back out there. Give us a call and be a part of this great time in sunny south Florida.

March 19

Today was the kind of day that we don’t really look forward to but we know that fishing is going to be good. It was blowing 25 to 30 knots out of the south east and the seas were 5 to 6 feet high.

We let Jeremiah and Jeff from Atlanta know that while the ocean was going to be rough we would have a good shot at catching sailfish.

So Captain Greg took the boat out to about 140 feet of water and put the kites out. Then he just held the boat right into the big seas. This was the best way to target sailfish and it was also the most conferrable way to hold the boat for everyone.

Well it took a little while but soon enough there he was a nice big fat sailfish and we were Hooked Up. There really was no way to chase this fish down in these kind of seas so Greg just held the boat pointed at the waves and let the angler reel the fish to us. We did finally manage to get the fish to the boat get a couple quick pictures and a quick measurement of the and watched him swim away unharmed.

Well done guys and way to hang in there.

March 20

Well we are way into March and the big fish are starting to show up. Today Jimmy, Kyle, Adam and Megan all from Oklahoma spent the morning fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up. We started out kite fishing with live baits. We did this for over an hour in about 150 feet of water.

After too much time without a bite I decided to move out to deeper water to 350 feet of water and since we had a west wind I knew from past expanse that hammer head shark like to feed on top with a west wind. So we put out a nice tasty bloody bonito on top and from there it did not take long and there he was trying to eat our bonito. We knew he had the sent we seen him going crazy all over the surface trying to find the bait and he did. And when he did this fish took off like a freight train.

Well Kyle wasted no time jumping in the chair and the fight was on. We got the fish close to the boat pretty fast but once it got a look at the boat than it just went nuts and it took Kyle another 20 min to get him back to the boat. Well we did finally manage to get the fish to the boat and now we had 3 other people wanting to catch fish and Jimmy was saying that every time he gets on a boat he never catches a fish so I was determined to catch him one.

So after catching the hammerhead shark I took the boat over a deep wreck about 210 feet of water and dropped live bait down there. It took about 2 sec and we were Hooked Up again. This fish was kicking jimmies but he hung in there and did get this monster amberjack to the boat. We brought it aboard took the hook out got a few pictures and released him. Well that was too easy so we did it again and just like the first time as soon as we hit the bottom we were Hooked Up. This time it was Adam that jumped in the chair. Now he got the chance to see what Jimmy was moaning about. Adam did also get his fish to the boat and once again we got the hook out took a few picture and released the fish to fight another day.

Thanks again guys.

Well fishing just keeps getting better every day so give us a call and get the heck out of the cold and come on down to sunny South Florida and let’s get you Hooked Up

March 21

Today was a birthday boy day. We had Dylan who turned 16 today and his dad John brought along his friends Ryan, Nico, David and Kevin. They had driven down from Boca Raton Florida and I knew we were going to have to make something happen for him today. Well the ocean was a little rough and we had a full moon right now and no current and that’s a bad combination for fishing.

So we started out kite fishing with live baits with no luck. We were fishing in 150 feet of water for quite some time with no luck. So I decided once again to move out to 350 feet of water and put out some shark baits and this way I figured we’d up the odds of getting a bite. So now we had our live baits out there along with dead baits and I figured we had all our bases covered. Well after about an hour we did finally have a bite on one of the dead baits but we pulled the hooks. RATS What to do. I gave it a nether 15 min but the fish never did come back to finish the bait. So we checked the bait and yea it was all torn up but now we were running short on time.

So we pulled all the baits in and we in to about 210 feet of water to a wreck that worked for us the day before. Got the bait on the bottom and BAM we were Hooked Up.

We got Birthday boy in the chair and watched this fish put it to him. (How’s that for a birthday spanking) LOL He did finally reel the fish to the boat after about 10 min and we still had a little time left. So we did the same thing again and sure enough once again the sec we hit the bottom we were Hooked Up again this time Ryan got to get his but kicked and we all had a great time busting his chops.

At the end of it all they did boat both fish we got the hooks out of both of them a couple pictures and released them to fight again some other day.

Bottom fishing is starting to get red hot some let’s get you out there.

March 22

Today I was running the Local Knowledge for Captain Mike and he had told me that I had my work cut out for me this day. We had a repeat customer Mike Haygood from Fortlauderdale fishing with us this morning and he had brought along his fried Scott also from Ft Lauderdale. The reason he had told me that I had my work cut out for me was just 2 weeks ago Captain Mike had taken Mike out fishing and he had caught his first sailfish.

To make matters worse we have a full moon this day and I know from past experience that at times on a full moon could be slow. And it was I wanted to get a jump on the other fishing boats by go to fish some of the deep ship wrecks early in the trip instead of waiting and fishing them at the end of the trip like most of the fishing boats do. Well it was a good idea but we had no current and the bottom fish just were not feeding.

Well time for plan B I told the guys what was going on and none of the boats were catching anything on the reef so we decided to try something no one else was doing.

We went off shore and put out some nice trolling bait a couple of lures and a couple bonito strips and just cover some water and hope for the best. Well this was just fine with Mike he had his COLD Budweiser and he was just glad to be out there fishing.

Well we trolled for quite some time without a bite but everyone seemed ok with it so we turned us the music and Mike just kept drinking his beers. Before anyone knew anything about a bite Mike stood up and started yelling there he is. Son of a gun Mike was not just drinking he was paying a close attention on all the rods.

Well for someone who loves fishing this much and payed for most of the trip I could not believe my ears. He told Scott to get in the chair and just don’t stop reeling. Well it paid off we ended up catching a Wahoo and missed another one.

Well we know we did not catch a lot but it sure is nice to see someone have such a ball.

Thanks again Mike and I hoped you enjoyed dinner.

I know we’ll be seeing you again soon. ( For A better look at picture go to Photo Gallery #2)

Today the Hooked Up crew took out Geoffrey Gill and his two kids, Alison and Nick from Boston. We started out trolling the reef but the trolling wasn’t producing any fish. Therefore, we did a little live-bait fishing with no luck on that either. At this point, the kids were getting antsy and we knew we had to produce some fish. We drove to the shipwreck that was about 210 feet down to the bottom. Once we got there, we dropped a live-bait down to see what we could pull out. The second the bait reached the bottom, BANG! We were Hooked Up. It took Nick about 10 minutes to get the fish to the boat, but it was well worth the fight. He had landed a monster Amber Jack. We figured if it worked once, we would try it again. Once again, the bait hit the bottom and BANG! We were Hooked Up again. Now it was Alison’s turn with a little help from her Dad. This one took 10 minutes as well, worth the fight. Alison hauled up a monster Alamaco Jack. Once again it was another successful trip aboard the Hooked Up.

Today was a pretty good day of fishing. Along with us on the Hooked Up, we had Dewey, his wife, and his two sons. We went right to kite fishing, suspending our live baits from the kites. After a few minutes of waiting, we thought we had a sailfish trying to eat one of our baits, but it turned out to be a nice dolphin fish. After we boated the dolphin fish, we got our baits right back out there. From that point, it didn’t take long till we were sure it was a sailfish trying to eat our baits. It took a couple of seconds for the sailfish to catch the bait, but never the less he caught it, and we were Hooked Up. This fish had no intentions of being caught so it took us a little while to get this fish up to the boat side. The angler did a great job, hung in there, and we did finally prevail. Thanks for a great morning of fishing, looking forward to fishing with you guys again soon

March 26

Today we had Rob and Kirk aboard the Hooked Up for an afternoon of fishing. We had a southwest wind and we know that southwest wind usually means hammerheads tailing on the surface. We went out to 350 feet of water, put out the kites, and put down a couple of shark baits. It didn’t take long and sure enough, here came a big golden hammerhead, heading for one of our shark baits. He wouldn’t eat the shark bait, he kept coming after our live-baits which were on monofilament liters. When he came close to a live bait, we reeled it up in the air so he wouldn’t bite throught the liter. This got quite frustrating for us because he wanted to eat the live baits but we couldn’t let him bite through the liter. Well I guess it was frustrating for the shark too. He finally faded off into the deep blue. After waiting for quite some time in hope he would return, we started running short on time. We knew it was then time to make a change. Therefore, we went in on a deep reef ledge and put out live baits on wire liters and managed to save the trip with a monster Barracuda. Thanks again guys, looking forward to seeing you again soon.

Today Matt and Dave from Boston spent the day fishing with us. Not much was going on with any of the fishing boats, so we decided to put our kite baits out in 350 feet of water, and also set out some shark baits. We figured this way we would better our odds of catching a sailfish, a shark, or maybe even some dolphin fish. Well it didn’t take much time until a monster hammerhead came in and ate one of our shark baits. He ate the bait, the rod bent over and it was game on, Matt and this big hammerhead shark. This shark turned out to be a big male hammerhead that had no intentions of being caught. It took us over 35 minutes to finally get the fish to the side of the boat. Matt was pretty worn out, but he hung in there and got the job done.

Now Dave really wanted to catch a sailfish. We then picked up and moved into 120 feet of water. We put our live baits on light wire because there had been a lot of kingfish around. While we were hoping for a sailfish, we could not believe our eyes. We had another hammerhead zeroing in on our baits. Before we knew it, we were Hooked Up again. We didn’t think we had much of a chance to catch this shark on such a light liter. However, Dave took his time and worked the equipment properly and we finally managed to get the shark to the boat. We snapped a couple of quick pictures and watched him swim away.

Looking forward to seeing you guys next month! Thanks for a great and fun day of fishing.

March 31

Today we had a shared charter going out. We had John and his son from Wisconsin and they were down in South Florida for a swimming meet that his son was in. We also had Greg from Boston and we also had 2 other guys from New Jersey that were running a little late. Well when these other 2 guys got to the boat it was pretty obvious that they had way too much to drink and this early in the morning and with all the 4 letter words coming out of their mouths we decided that it would be in ever ones best interest if we took a bit of a pay cut and let these guys go on some other boat by them self’s.

Well you can just manage how glad John his son and Greg were about this. So off we went trolling down the reef with 3 baits on top and two baits down deep on planer boards. We were trying to catch some kingfish or some bonitos so we could later put them out as shark baits. Well we never did find the kings but we did manage to catch a couple nice dolphin fish which was great because John and his son wanted to go next door to this restaurant when we got in and have them cook them up for them.

Now it was time to take care of Greg. We did have a couple old shark baits lying around and we figured a couple of old bait would be better than nothing.

So we put our kites out with some live baits suspended from them and a couple dead shark baits out. One down on the bottom about 350 feet down and one about half way down.

Well it didn’t take too long when one of the shark rods bent over and line started screaming off the reel as if was never going to stop coming off. But after a few min the fish settled down and we had Greg in the chair and the fight was on. I’ve got to tell you that Greg is no little guy he has to be about 6 foot 2 and about 270 pound and it took all he had to hang in there. This was no little shark and it took Greg a good 40 min to finally get the fish to the boat. This truly was a monster it was about a 300 pound hammer head shark (WAY TO GO GREG )

What a great fun day there was just one thing that made the day even better these 2 guys that we decided not to take went on an other fishing boat and caught nothing. I guess sometimes thing just have a way of working them self’s out.

Well it has been a pretty good March but tomorrow starts the beginning of April and that’s when all the big sharks and big Dolphin fish start coming threw so give us a call and let us get you Hooked Up!
